Million Dollar Legs

Grandma Fay on the left was born in 1910 during the depression. Coming from a family of 12 children life was hard. Around 1920 the family moved by wagon train to Texas, and according to her account many people died on that trip from the flu.

As the years past but still very young she got a job in El Paso as a telephone operator. Oh how she loved to tell the story of how she was called the Red Hot Operator. People would stand behind her and watch as a call came thru and there were so many different cables going everywhere, she would jiggle one at the bottom and know exactly which one it was.

The money that she made was taken home to help with such a big family. On her lunch break she would buy a nickel candy bar and go hide in the bathroom and eat it, not wanting anyone to know that was all she could afford.

Not sure what point in life she was in this picture, she is on the left and one of her sisters on the right. As she would get on the street car the men would whistle and tell her she had million dollar legs. She spoke of that many times in her later years.

Time passes and she marries a wonderful man, my grandpa . They had a farm in a small town Rodeo, NM where they both worked very hard. The town of Rodeo is and was very small and my grandparents owned the grocery store, her sister owned the hotel and my great Aunt Nancy owned the saloon.

After my grandfather’s passing from cancer she came to live with our family, and stayed with us for many years. Her and I often shared a bedroom so I heard her stories at night before we fell asleep.

Each month when her social security check arrived, she would get her favorite candy and some new Louis L’amour books which she loved. Also if my brothers and I were good she would have my mom drive us all to Dairy Queen in Douglas to buy dilly bars.

She passed on years later before I had my first son. I miss you Grandma!

UFO Experience in late 70’s

From the forth to ninth grade I lived in a small town in Arizona “Douglas”.

Uncle Jiggs had a ranch just outside town that he had put a few mobile homes on and rented them out. Our family lived in the double wide at the time. I had four younger brothers, myself being the oldest. There were other families living at the ranch also. Those were some of my best memories as a child.

One night we had a sleepover at my house, and we all decided to sleep outside under the stars. I was around 11 at the time. There were probably about 10 of us out there that evening.

Around one o’clock in the morning, we were all woken to a very very bright light shining down on us from above. The light covered a big area. The UFO made no noise whatsoever, but you could tell something was there. It stayed above us for what seemed an eternity, more like a couple of minutes. We all just stared and some were screaming. Then with the light still shining down it moved to the house across from ours and disappeared back into the sky.

What was it and why was it taking an interest in all of us? That will never be known.

We all finished our night of sleeping inside to say the least. I don’t often think about it, but with all the UFO sightings lately it brings it back to memory once more.

I’m an addict

Now that I have your attention! My addiction may not be as bad as others, but to me it is.

For as long as I can remember I have been addicted to Dr. Pepper. This is how my day starts, 2 cups of coffee maybe a little water and then Dr. Pepper here I come. Water is not a big part of my life, tho it should be. Lately with this heat I can possibly get in 3 or 4 bottles of water a day. Not because I want it but it’s needed.

I feel like a junky and guess I am in a way. At night I lay in bed and think tomorrow I’m not drinking any more soda, but the will power is not there in the morning. The desire to be healthy is there tho. If the soda was gone I’d probably drop another 5 pounds. As it stands now my weight is about 137. I feel better when the water is consumed, but can not beat this addiction.

Please feel free to contact me if you have gone through this yourself, would love pointers and encouragement.

About Us

Hello all, let me introduce us. I am Nancy and my husband is Tony. Wow there is so much to say but I’ll try to keep this kinda short. We have decided to start a travel blog to let the world see a first hand account of what we will be experiencing as we take this new journey in life as traveling hippies.

A little background about the two of us. I have had a hippie soul for most of my life, very laid back and was very quite for most of my life until my husband came along 8 years ago. He let me see a world I had never seen and probably never would have if I had not met him. Photography is one of my passions, wildlife and people in their natural state not posing for the camera. Hoping to meet some great people, hear their stories and share with our followers.

For now I want to talk about Tony tho.

Almost a year ago Tony had a nervous breakdown because he had a very high stress job and we traveled all time. We were in a different state every week. We went from making $300.000 a year to nothing. This came on fast and has changed his life drastically. We have decided to enjoy life and take it one day at a time.

We have traveled for work in an RV for a few years now, but now we are going to travel and enjoy the beauty of life itself. Plans are to travel around and sell Hippie clothing and a few other things, see what wonderful people we meet along the way and I plan on writing short stories and take photos of other Hippies who are doing the same as ourselves.

During this illness that Tony is going thru we have lost everything and are having to start over from scratch, but with a whole new attitude and outlook of life. We now have an older RV and hoping to get some hippie clothing to sell along the journey. If anyone would like to donate to our journey please feel free to contact us, any amount will help. I have been managing a small RV park in Arizona and taking care of him also. My pay is very small as anyone who has done workcamper jobs know.

We are hoping to encourage other people who read the blogs to take a look at yourselves and decide, do I need to have a nice big house with a big payment or can I be Happy with much less.
